So what’s the story behind Pua Kenikeni Make Lei 📖

When I first started Sew Local, I created a collection called Keni, inspired by Puakenikeni’s color evolution. While the appearance of the pua changes from white to yellow to orange, it remains the same flower. 🌼

To me, that reflects our own journeys. We grow, evolve, and change throughout life, but we are always a piece of Hawaii. No matter how much you change, you are still part of Hawaiʻi. 🤍

This new collection is an ode to that first collection. I Will Always Make Lei for You Puakenikeni is a reminder of this unconscious habit so many of us share. 💌 No matter where you stay, you know if you’re celebrating a moment or someone, you show up with a lei. 🌼 Whether it’s making a ribbon lei for friends graduating on the mainland or making your dorm feel homey by hanging a lei, this habit has embedded itself in you, just as the stories, values, and local communities of Hawaiʻi have.

No matter how far from home or how long you’ve been away these values stick with you, you are still part of Hawaii just as much as Hawaii is part of you. ✈️🫶🏽
