Made in Hawaii for Hawaii

Our products are 70-100% made here in Hawaii.

Design Process
Everything is designed by Jazmyne, Owner of Sew Local, or in collaboration with a local artist. All designs are inspired by a story, value, or experience Jazmyne learned while growing up on Maui—making each piece a visual reminder to uphold Hawaii’s values and that you’re representing home no matter how far you go.

Manufacturing

  • Printing Design Onto Shirt- All printing is done here by Hawaii’s talented printers. All printing businesses are locally or Native Hawaiian owned.
  • Sewing- All accessories are sewn by Jazmyne.
  • Stickers- All stickers are printed at UH Manoa
  • Blank shirt- Unfortunately, there are no Hawaii-made blank shirts. These are the only piece of production that is not locally made.

    Packaging
All products are packaged by Jazmyne and Sew Local team members! Every piece of packaging has a story/message on it so if you can, read em :)

“For Sew Local, I strive to keep as much of production rooted here in Hawaiʻi. My goal is for each product to serve as a reminder of home, story, and community—and the best way to honor that is by having every piece made by the very community that raised me. Mahalo for supporting my local business.”

    With love,
    Jazmyne, Owner of Sew Local

There's a story behind every design and stitch.

Jazmyne, the owner of Sew Local, creates designs to embody values she learned throughout her childhood on Maui. The products represent Hawaii's values and become reminders to continue representing Hawaii through and through and perpetuate local values.

Behind the Scene: Lei of Love

Behind all Lei of Love designs are the products of creatives Jazmyne Viloria, owner of Sew Local, and Cailyn Omuro, student artist. These Maui gals both grew up in the same creative media program at Maui Waena Intermediate School, where they learned to use storytelling as the backbone to everything they do.

Although Cailyn attends CSU Long Beach and Jazmyne attends UH Manoa, both of them conversed about the nostalgia and reflection of their high school graduation lei ceremony. They recalled how the field didn’t look like a group of graduates, but instead, stacks of leis walking around with uncles holding up graduation posters following behind. This simple conversation led to the realization that each lei was not just decoration, but a representation of the many people who contributed to each of their journeys. The number of leis represents the people who have supported them throughout childhood and the community they now carry on their shoulders to represent well.

Lei of Love is the embodiment of this conversation. Each piece from Lei of Love is a reminder of the community that rests on your shoulders, that you are a representation of home no matter how far you go. It’s also a reminder to appreciate the love, effort, and care strung through each lei. So, if you're graduating this semester or plan to lei a grad, remember the community you’re both contributing to and represent Hawaii in all you do.
